Friday evening saw six of our 8 cars for this event making their way in
heavy rain for the docks at Portsmouth.
We all boarded the ferry for St Malo and sat down to an excellent Meal
before retiring to our cabins for what turned out to be a fairly stormy
crossing.
We awoke next morning to a clear sky and an enjoyable run down to Loheac
where were joined by Richard and Stephen with their families and their
4Cvs to attend the event organised by Renault Histoire and collection.
The weekend offered opportunities to drive on the track attend a first
class French auto jumble and spent time in the magnificent car museum.
Following the first day we made our way back to our hotel to book in and
then find something to eat. Unfortunately all the restaurants were full
and we ended up in a Macdonalds Except Nigel Patten Pat and Stuart
who managed to grab a table for three.
Day two followed a similar pattern except that we had booked a table at
what turned out to be a very good restaurant and enjoyed an great evening
together.
Traffic was heavy on the way back to the hotel so Jill Poole managed to
navigate a most enjoyable rout through the villages and by passing the city all
together. Unlike in the UK the villagers were keen to see the cars and
came to the roadside to wave us through and clap.
Overnight we had thunder and lightning with very heavy rain and we started
off to the ferry in the dark and heavy rain. By the time daylight arrived it was
bright and dry and we had a smooth crossing to the UK where we disembarked and
all headed our separate ways.
Tony Toplis had covered almost 750miles since leaving home in his Dauphine
and the car did not miss a beat.
