The Renault 8 S R1136 Introduced in August 1968
The R8S seems to be becoming a rare sight in the UK. The club would like to build up a picture of the remaining R8S s. If you own an 8s in the UK we would like to hear from you and we will keep a register of the cars and publish figures of the cars we know. At present we know of 9 cars.

With an increase in power over the Renault 8of 30% delivering 60bhp at 5,500 the 1108cc engine gives the eight a dual personality. A well balanced 5 bearing engine with a weber twin choke carburetter coupled to a all synchromesh 4 speed gearbox gives good acceleration through the gears to over 90MPH. Engine Four cylinder in line detachable wet liners. Compression ratio 9.5:1 Bore 70mm Stroke 72mm Cubic capacity 1108cc Max power gross (sae) 60bhp at 5,500 rpm Max torque Gross (SAE) 59.7 lb/ft. at 3,000 rpm Valve gear type overhead pushrods and rockers Special single roller chain driven camshaft Crankshaft five bearings .Cylinder head Light alloy shrunk in valve seats. Carburetter : Weber twin choke with water heated hotspot and manually operated choke Ignition : Distributor with centrifugal and vacuum control Battery 12 volts 40 amp/hr Transmission Four speed all synchromesh 1st 14.93 2nd 9.28 3rd 6.11 top 4.25 reverse 12.70:1 Final drive 8x33 (4.125) Diaphragm clutch with single dry plate.
